Upon returning home, something felt lacking for about a month. Then, one morning, my mother returned from her groceries accompanied by my teenage niece and nephew, each carrying a 1.5L tub of ice cream.
As soon as I saw the ice cream, I realized that was exactly what I had been missing! Throughout the day, I couldn't help but crave some myself.
Later in the evening, when I went to the freezer, I was surprised to find only one 1.5L tub remaining.
How could a 1.5L tub disappear so quickly? Judging by the cups my niece and nephew were holding, there should have been at least half a tub left.
When I questioned them about it, they casually mentioned having a cup each after lunch. So, half of it was gone after lunch? "We're just taking what's left," they replied innocently.
As most parents know, teenagers have voracious appetites! I was too when I was a teenager :)
Reflecting on the gelato we had in Europe, I discovered significant differences between gelato and ice cream.
Gelato, with its lower fat content, is denser and boasts a richer flavour profile compared to ice cream.
Excited by the possibility of recreating authentic Italian gelato at home, I embarked on a journey to make artisanal gelato using fresh ingredients with lesser fats and no preservatives.
